August 2024
In 14 months, Microsoft will end support for their Windows 10 operating system. The current version of Windows 10 is 22H2 and will be the final version of Windows 10. All editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through October 14, 2025. After this date, any Windows 10 devices in use will no longer receive free crucial security updates or be eligible for standard Microsoft support. With Windows 10 being sunset, continuing to utilize this operating system will increase the security risk exposure for your healthcare organization.
While this date could potentially change from Microsoft, planning is necessary to ensure your organization is ready. Now is the time to begin thinking about having a plan of action.
What are the options
Windows 10 computers which meet the Windows 11 minimum hardware requirements may be upgraded to Windows 11. For devices which don’t meet these minimum hardware requirements, it is recommended they be replaced.
While older computers which meet these minimum requirements can be upgraded, aging and lower specification machines may experience performance issues running current applications which may affect employee productivity.
To keep up with current equipment and ongoing software requirements, organizations should plan on replacing computers every 4-5 years depending on the hardware specification and lifecycles of their needs.
It’s vital that you consult with your third-party IT support groups to better assess your current setup, explore tailored solutions, and ensure a smooth transition without disrupting your operations.
