Parish Systems Setup Template (Working Copy)

This is a (first draft) high-level (non-detailed) overview of a recommended systems setup at a parish ...

  1. Purchase non-Profit Microsoft 365 Business Premium Licensing
  2. Setup the tenant with all of the user accounts / shared mailboxes
  3. Purchase Backupify (backup platform product by Kaseya) to cover all mailboxes.  Setup / connect to 365 tenant
  4. If Parish does not have local Antivirus in place, it's recommended that Microsoft Defender is purchased
    1. If Defender is used, enable it on all of the workstations / laptops
  5. Configure the following:
    1. Configure Spam Filter
    2. Configure Defender – if applicable
    3. Setup Teams for the Parish – Move shared date to teams
    4. Setup OneDrive for each user – move personal / work files to OneDrive
    5. Create shortcuts to teams shared folders to have access to from under OneDrive on each desktop
    6. Enable Intune for PC management – optional
      • Join desktops / laptops to azure for ease of maintenance/management
  6. Enable MFA for secure access

 

Consider moving into Azure using  Microsoft 365 Business Premium licensing

  • You will have OneDrive (personal storage)
  • Microsoft Teams will replace your local server share drive(s) (Parish Cloud Data Store) - (Assuming that there is no requirement for local storage)
  • You will be able to utilize Microsoft Intune to manage your endpoints
  • You can take benefit of using Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (at additional cost) as antivirus replacement to what you have now (that is an option to consider)
  • You will be able to benefit from using Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan1 (Spam filter)
  • For disaster recovery you can get Kaseya - Backupify - cloud backup solution for your tenant to cover backup of 365 email, OneDrive and teams (SharePoint)
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium license comes with Windows Desktop license to cover your desktops that come with retail version of windows
  • Microsoft 365 Business Premium license comes with Microsoft Office 365 Applications Suite
  • You will be able to join your desktops / laptops to azure for software deployments / management
  • User will be able to access their data from home
  • You will minimize your hardware requirement on prem
